Disability Expo 6th- 7th July
fidgetsandstims recently attended the Disability Expo at London’s Excel building. As ever, it was a pleasure to meet so many of you and discuss one of my biggest passions in life: communication.
We met so many wonderful vendors such as Pods, who make incredible sensory tents that have the ability to play music, audio books, have light shows and more. It was also really interesting to learn more about the sunflower lanyard scheme. The sunflower lanyard scheme or hidden disability scheme allows the wearer to opt in to wear a sunflower lanyard to make their invisible disability visible, if they so choose. This can be helpful in shops, public transport or other crowded places to show that a person maty require extra support. I had no idea that the scheme had so many varieties in that you can order custom lanyard cards with your disability on them or that you could get attachable magnets for the back of your car, which could be useful if you ever got into an accident to signify that you may need extra help or time.
This was the first Disability Expo held at Edexcel and it was a pleasure to attend. It will be interesting to see how this show continues to grow over the next few years.
